Lead in Oakland Soils
DIY guide to treating toxic lead in garden soils. We worked with the US-EPA in the South Prescott neighborhood utilizing fish bones to trap lead in urban soils so it is not bio-available. Lessons learned from this practice inform the guide.
Bee-friendly Landscape Design Practices
A summary report about neonicotinoids and their threat to bees can be found on the Friends of the Earth website. We source our plantings for pollinator gardens from these fine nurseries that do not rely on neonic pesticides:
Annie's Annuals, Sunnyside Nursery, East Bay Wilds, Yerba Buena Nursery and Emerisa Nursery
Note: Since these nurseries propagate their own stock, many plant selections are only available in 4" pots. The native nurseries tend to have larger stock. If you invest in a pollinator garden, it's important to realize that initial plantings require a little more time before growing into maturity.
