Lowell Beach House

Generations of architecture students have dutifully analyzed this house. Source materials from Schindler's office and the one very telling bare construction photo show the sections as seen from the beach side. Usually analysis drawings replicate the section per the source material and are not inventive in constructing the spatial experience of spending time in this structure. The house is meant to be approached from its midpoint and accessed from the formal front door or the kitchen entry. These sections are deployed as a visitor would be oriented to them.

Territories of inhabitation are indicated by pale orange. The tilt-up concrete frame allows the floor spans to vary from being contained within the frame to cantilevering out. Inhabitation is the most dense at the domestic end of the home (street/service side); less dense at the beach side where the ocean view is prominent.
